Why experts calling Fifty Shades of Grey Movie 'too vanilla'(Top ten fact)

The hotly anticipated Fifty Shades of Grey has been slammed by critics for lacking in sex. Those who watched the movie, which stars Jamie Dornan and Dakato Johnson, yesterday ahead of it’s world wide release left feeling it was a little flaccid. The movie, which is based on E.L James' erotic book, features just 15 minutes of sex throughout the two hour runtime and that was described as ‘run-of-the-mill’ love making. Others were

left disappointed that the film, which was expected to be extremely racy with plenty of S&M, was in fact just ‘vanilla’.
Here’s what the reviewers had to say:

USA Today – “ You will be disappointed”
Critic Claudia Puig wrote: “Those looking for hot, kinky sex will be disappointed. Fewer than 15 of the movie's 125 minutes feature sex scenes.
Fifty Shades of Grey' Reveals Who Will Play Christian and Anastasia
“Discussion of contracts and objections over line items outweigh erotica. Even the graphic nudity grows numbing.”

New York Daily News – “Nothing to shock”
Fifty Shades of Grey Movie: Henry Cavill as Christian Grey in movie ...
Elizabeth Weitzman said: “..anyone hoping the movie would really push the S&M envelope may find Christian's tastefully shot toy room a little… vanilla.

“We see a whip here, a handcuff there, but nothing that would shock even newcomers to the series.'

Entertainment Weekly – “Christian keeps his pants on throughout”

Lisa Schwarzbaum commented: “Nobody in the movie has visible genitals.

“Christian in particular seems to do a whole lot of stuff in the playroom with his shirt off but his pants on, which cannot be comfortable for such an active young man.

“But even more frustrating to voyeurs, nobody sweats, nobody strains, nobody loses control or even fakes losing control by simulating an orgasm.”

Mashable – “There’s not nearly enough sex in it”

Josh Dickey wrote: “There’s not nearly enough sex in it…That’s a shame, because Marcel performed nothing short of a miracle here, turning hapless, unreadable fan-fiction rubbish that somehow caught fire into a capable, slow-building script.”

Time Out New York – “ It may not make you come, but you’ll still be glad you went.”

David Ehrlich added: “As this is the first installment of an epic trilogy, how much there is beneath the surface remains to be seen, but Taylor-Johnson seems genuinely interested in finding out. Fifty Shades may not make you come, but you’ll still be glad you went.”

The Hollywood Reported – “It’s a slow build to the smutty bits”

Sheri Linden wrote: “It’s a slow build to the smutty bits, and one that’s disappointingly devoid of tension. Even so, the movie is, by definition, a stronger proposition than the book because it strips away the oodles of cringe-inducing descriptions and internal monologue that tip the text heavily toward self-parody.”

1. The sex-fuelled books may have their fair share of critics, but you can't argue with their impact - author E.L James has been listed in Time Magazine as one of the “100 Most Influential People in The World”.

2. While the Bible is still the biggest selling book in the world, the owner of the Damson Dene Hotel in the Lake District has opted to replace it in all rooms with copies of 50 Shades of Grey. Apparently it's thought guests might enjoy them more...

3. The books originally started out as Twilight fan fiction entitled Master of the Universe, before being completely rewritten as an original piece. Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey are based on Twilight characters Bella Swan and Edward Cullen.

4. When James first wrote the series she used the pen name Snowqueen’s Icedragon.

5. Given the above, it is ironic then, that Twilight writing sensation Stephanie Meyer has snubbed the books, admitting: 'It's not my thing'.

6. Buyers of 50 Shades are predominantly middle-aged women.

7. Despite the snobbery surrounding the books, academics have praised them. Debby Herbenick, a research scientist at Indiana University, said: 'Fifty Shades is getting a lot of people thinking and talking more openly about sex, sexuality, desire and interest. It's helping many women to feel comfortable enjoying something about sexual fantasy and arousal.'

8. The 50 Shades trilogy has sold 31 million copies worldwide, overtaking Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and The Da Vinci Code as the bestselling books in Britain.

9. E.L James' website includes playlists of the songs that helped stimulate her sex scenes. Every book in the trilogy has its own playlist and includes Britney Spears' Toxic, Frank Sinatra's Witchcraft and Kings of Leon's Sex on Fire.

10. E.L James has never been to Seattle or Portland, where 50 Shades is set. Instead, she used Google Street View to help her imagine them.
